Before Your Engagement Session — Read This First

At the end of the day — whatever location you choose, whatever the weather brings — what we can promise you is a session that feels guided, relaxed, and completely genuine. J'adore Love thrives in the organic and the natural. We are not about stiff poses or manufactured moments. We are about capturing the real energy between two people who are genuinely in love, and letting that tell the story.
Every session delivers between 80 to 100 beautifully edited, high resolution, print-ready images — the kind you will want to frame, share, and hold onto forever. Your gallery will be delivered within 3 to 4 weeks after your session. And if life has other plans and you need your images sooner, expedited delivery is available — just let us know.
All you have to do is show up. We handle everything else.

READY TO BOOK YOUR ENGAGEMENT SESSION? LET'S MAKE SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL.

You said yes — and now it is time to make it official in the most beautiful way possible. An engagement session is more than just photos. It is your first real experience in front of the camera as a couple, and when it is done right it should feel effortless, exciting, and completely true to who you are together.
But getting there takes a little preparation. Finding the right photographer — one who is efficient with your time, makes you feel at ease, and brings a genuine vision to the session — is the single most important decision you will make. Everything else builds from there. The right photographer sets the tone, guides the energy, and turns what could feel awkward into something that flows naturally from the very first frame.
From there, choosing the right location and putting together the right look can feel overwhelming without guidance. But with the right direction, both become exciting parts of the process rather than stressful ones.
That is exactly what this guide is for. Whether you are figuring out what to wear, where to go, or simply how to show up and not feel like a deer in headlights — we have you covered. Let's walk through everything you need to know to make your engagement session one of the best experiences of your entire planning journey.

1. Choose The Perfect Location

6. Comfort First Then Fashion

Heels may look great in photos but aren’t ideal for walking across cobblestones, grass, or sand. Bring comfortable walking shoes and change into your dressy shoes right before we shoot or bring flat for after the session is done.

7. Be Present & Trust The Process

You don’t need to worry about posing—that’s our job. Just show up as yourselves, ready to connect and have fun. Let go, and let the moments unfold naturally.

Engagement sessions typically last about an hour and a half, and we recommend sticking to one outfit to keep the session flowing naturally. If you want variety without the interruption, layering works beautifully — a jacket, scarf, or statement accessory can shift your entire look without a full change.
If multiple complete looks are part of your vision, plan for it properly. Add at least one additional hour to your session to allow time to change and travel to a second location comfortably. This comes with a price upgrade — but for couples who want to fully see their vision come to life, it is absolutely worth it.
Whatever you choose — pick colors that pop against your background and complement your location. Your outfits should stand out, not blend in.

2. Outfit Planning

We aim to shoot during golden hour or 2 hours before sunset—when the lighting is soft and flattering. This timing creates a dreamy, romantic feel. We typically schedule engagement sessions on weekdays, as weekends are reserved for weddings.

3. Time it Right

4. Weather Awareness

Weather is one of those variables we cannot control — but we can plan around it. Golden hour is always the goal, but overcast skies produce soft, even light that is genuinely beautiful for portraits. Some of our favorite sessions have happened under cloudy skies.
Rain is a different conversation. If there is a chance of rain and that is not the vibe you are going for, rescheduling is always the right call. There is no point in pushing through conditions that are going to stress you out — your energy shows up in every frame.
That said, light rain with a thoughtful plan can bring serious drama and emotion to your images. An umbrella, the right location, the right light — it can be absolutely cinematic. If you are open to it, let us know in advance and we will plan accordingly.
When in doubt, we will always communicate with you ahead of your session and guide you toward the best decision for your day.

5. Keep it Light

Bring only essentials like your phone, a small touch-up item. Skip large bags; they become distractions and slow us down between shots.
